People going to university may sometimes need support to enable them to fully partake in the course and to study to the best of their ability. Most academic institutions are very good and make various provisions for students with special educational needs or difficulties, but there is additional support available.

Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA)

516159_origStudents studying in Higher Education can apply for Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) funding. The scheme is usually open to UK residents who have a specific learning difficulty such as dyslexia, disability, long-term health condition or mental health condition. The funding can help with the costs of assistive equipment or software, and pay for training on it too.

As part of the provision under DSA, we can deliver tailored Assistive Technology training to suit the needs of the client and to enable them get the most from the equipment supplied, thus helping them overcome barriers and significantly increase their productivity.

  • knowledgeable about the software and are accredited by technology suppliers.
  • person-centred in their approach, so will keep the training engaging and relevant to the student.

  • flexible about the timing and location of training sessions.
  • compliant with our Health and Safety, Lone Worker and Complaints policies.
  • appropriately insured and Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked.
